
The Engineered Garments Spring/Summer 2022 collection, inspired by the music and fashion of the 1980s, significantly impacted my high school and university years as I pursued art. Discussing the collection's print art with Daiki Suzuki brought back vivid memories of that time.
During this period, world music gained popularity, with African music flourishing as artists like King Sunny Adé influenced new wave bands such as Talking Heads, Stewart Copeland, and TOTO.
On my first visit to New York in the mid-1980s, I was captivated by the Banana Republic in Greenwich Village. Its theme park-like designs and the excitement of its Travel & Safari concept left a lasting impression on me.
The animal print was initially intended for a small chest pocket on a T-shirt. However, after discussing it with Daiki, we printed it more prominently on the back instead.

Inexpensive architectural wood was used to create the blurred print for the original woodblock print.




I tried to print the wood grain, but the pattern was unclear.

A new hang tag design has been released. The photo was taken at Queenboro Plaza in Long Island City, New York.
